Powder Room Renovation Tips

Powder Room – Tips and Tricks

Renovations or Custom New Builds,  Mindful Homes is experienced in both!

The issue of where your guests go to the bathroom is always a tough one to tackle. Everyone has different preferences, and some people don’t like sharing their own bathroom with guests! Read our tips for creating a show-stopping powder room that stands the test of time.

1 – What even is a powder room?

Whilst we can’t vouch for the historical accuracy of this next statement, we are absolutely certain it’s true. At some point in time, people were tired of having to put away their shaving cream and unmentionables in the bathroom when guests came to visit. Thus the powder room was invented- a room where one can powder their nose and use the facilities without needing the functionality of a whole bathroom! A powder room is a small room in the home, usually located near the public areas, with a toilet and small basin for washing hands. Incorporating a powder room into your renovation or new build is a great way to ensure guests can use facilities while everyone gets the privacy they need!

2 – How can I get a powder room?

If you are building a new home, (with Mindful Homes we hope!) talk to us about incorporating a powder room into the design! You might think adding an extra room or toilet will be expensive. Never fear, we can help you save money by designing a solution that suits you. Whether you commit to a powder room, or simply connect a separate toilet room with vanity to your en suite with a door, there are many ways of ensuring you have a space for your guests to use the facilities. If you are renovating an existing home, we can help you come up with the best solution for your budget!

3 – Designer’s dream!

If you have a natural creative flair, going wild with colour and pattern in a powder room is a great creative outlet! Powder rooms are great spaces to have fun with different styles and bold schemes. Because powder rooms are smaller spaces, if you want sell your house or change the style, generally it is less expensive to change than a full bathroom. It also means you add interest to the space for when your guests come over, it’s the room they will use the most!

4 – Create impact!

If you are looking for a way to ensure you have a unique, on-trend room, on a budget, keep permanent items neutral. You can make a statement with things that can be easily changed out with trends. Think along the lines of gold hardware or brushed gun-metal taps and towel rails; essentially you could even change certain items yourself without needing a tradesman! We like to think differently when it comes to forever homes, after all we are custom home builders! If you don’t want a home that looks like everyone elses, Mindful Homes is here to help!

Tip 5 – Accessorise!

Many people shy away from doing anything different with renovations. Unfortunately the result is homes all over Perth all have the exact same bathroom and powder room. This is crazy because renovating or building a new home is the perfect time to try something new! Put hanging plants over the toilet or use a gorgeous wall paper to make a statement. Install open shelving to display candles or functional decorative items or install a hanging light pendant instead of a down-light or combo light. Find ways to incorporate design elements to items that you need to install anyway. Accessorising will elevate your space to feel custom without costing a lot of money.
